I don't know that. I drove an R and if felt like an A4 (drove those too). The 2.0 and 6-speed just seemed more...nimble. It felt like it turned-in better and while I couldn't get back on the power nearly as fast, it felt quicker through the corners. Maybe I wasn't giving it enough skinny-pedal, but it seemed like the R just plowed into corners and no amount of throttle or brake could get the ass of the car around.
The power was nice though...![]()
well thats because they use almost the same quattro system in the awd a4 as the r32/r36. The reason you had a hard time was you had all 4 wheels spinning whereas the fwd in a gti allows for more of a snap movement to break it loose. The rs are in a tier of their own....their own niche market. you have to be die hard vw to really want one as the car does not fill any real gap in the automotive world. It almost seems that vw said hey lets make something different that has no real market.
I love and hate that car at the same time lol.
